Dear Voices for the ACLU:
During my 12 years on the ACLU national staff, I happened to witness a few internal violations of civil liberties’ principles. My colleagues and I tried to correct what we viewed as serious management mistakes, at least not to be repeated in the future. We usually were successful, sometimes not. But we always proceeded internally and quietly. Never did we go public. And most certainly never did we enlist the media or engage in personal attacks . . . in much less perilous times than now.
In today’s post-9/11, anti-civil-liberties, and anti-civil-rights environment, the ACLU is more important than ever. And the ACLU has been there, up front, fighting to protect our constitutional rights, our civil rights, our civil liberties. Thank you, ACLU.
Count me in as another voice for the ACLU, and as a vigorous supporter of Anthony Romero and of his vision and ACLU leadership.
