ACLU Senior Managers

version of this letter

Dear ACLU Board
of Directors,
We are program managers and directors who have
each been at the ACLU for longer than 10 years.
We are writing to express our confidence in the
senior management of the ACLU, and in
particular, in Anthony Romero and Nadine
Strossen. ACLU management isn't perfect; it
never has been. But, based on our experience,
our leaders are continuing to honor the
fundamental principles for which the ACLU stands
in the program and management of the ACLU.
The ACLU is best measured by how we respond
during times when civil liberties are most in
danger and our work to protect them is most
needed. Anthony Romero, Nadine Strossen and the
ACLU's senior management have more than met that
test. The ACLU's program today is focused,
creative, and right on target. The ACLU is
stable and strong. The ACLU is managed
professionally and effectively.
We believe it is essential that the criticisms
of the ACLU's leadership be kept in perspective
and not detract from the critical work of the
ACLU or from the threat to civil liberties that
we currently confront.
We remain deeply proud, as we always have been,
to work here.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Alexander
